The Motion sensor is a sonar device that emits ultrasonic pulses which are reflected to and from an object to determine its distance from the sensor. That information can be used to work out the velocity or acceleration of the object. It will capture the motion of running students, falling basketballs and carts on inclined planes. This sensor will work well with the Dynamics System.

EXAMPLE SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

Here are just a few example practical ideas you can achieve by using the Wireless Motion Sensor.
  • Walking toward and away from the Sensor (trying to follow pre-sets created using Predict in the EasySense software).
  • Graphing time distance curves in real time
  • Movement of an object up or down a slope
  • Demonstrating the derivation of velocity, acceleration from time distance
  • Simple harmonic motion in suspended mass spring systems and pendulums
  • Acceleration due to gravity – free fall, pendulum swing, objects dropped or tossed upward
  • Conservation of energy - a bouncing object
  • Speed of sound in air
  • Energy changes in simple harmonic motion
  • Demonstration of ultrasound imaging
